Hard-rock mining: extracting ore from the rock, crushing it, grinding it, and separating the silver-rich concentrate through flotation.

By-product extraction: Silver is produced as a by-product in many copper, lead, and zinc mines.

Raw silver is first sent to a smelter (to produce doré bars), then to a refinery (for electrolysis) to achieve a purity of .999 or .9999—which gives it that fresh, bright luster.
